If five months counts as awhile then I guess that it really has been awhile between posts. You have my sincerest apologies. Surprisingly though I haven't been slacking off. What I have been doing is single-handedly orchestrating a move to Darwin. Hey, it wasn't my crazy idea. Credit for that can go to my crazy-ass husband. Truth be told I may have thrown a couple of tanties that would give my 3 year old a run for his money before I came around to the idea of completely uprooting my family and moving to the unfamiliar and unknown.
But here I am, blogging all the way from Darwin, where it's hot and humid and the hot water tap may as well be obsolete. We moved into our rental only 3.5 weeks ago but thankfully we're starting to feel settled now that we have our belongings around us and now that the mass of cardboard has gone. But boy it has been a stressful few months with many lessons learnt along the way, most of which are in relation to moving - but that's a whole other blog post in itself.
As some of you would know, I have taken a leave of absence from work but so I don't go stir crazy in my new role as a stay-at-home-mum, I plan on getting out and about and discovering the best kept secrets of my new home town. I also plan on getting more involved with my daughter's school, getting some much needed one on one time with my son to get him talking a bit more and of course I'll need to run my household and squeeze in some long overdue me-time. It has been an exhausting few months and sure I am a little homesick but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger as the cliche goes - or that Kelly Clarkson song for the matter. You've got that song in your head now don't you? Sorry, not sorry.
I had many reasons as to why a move to Darwin wouldn't be the best idea...We would be moving away from our close-knit family & friends, I like my job and the people I work with, my daughter had just started school and was fitting in nicely, she also loves her dance teacher...so many cons to not very many pros. But you know what, even though we haven't been here very long I'm glad that we've made the move. The whole process, although stressful, has also been rather cleansing. There's nothing quite like a blank canvas - a new beginning, a fresh start - whatever you want to call it and I think that I've only just put the first splash of colour on it and it's surprisingly satisfying. I'm looking forward to adding more colour to this canvas of mine. Too deep? Anyway the moral of the story is: Throw caution to the wind and just say yes to new adventures!
